This past Thursday I received a personal invitation from D.Woods of Danity Kane to attend her celebrity Birthday Party/R&B Live Showcase @ Luckie Food Lounge.
The event was put together by J. Carter while publicity was handled by Nicole Garner of the Garner Circle. Don Cannon, Rock City, Danity Kane, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Mychael Knight, BET’s Dorion, Bangladesh, Gorilla Zoe, Rico Brooks and others all came out to support.
Now y’all already know me SOHH anyone who went to this event already knows what it is was. Why promoters insist on treating Luckies like it’s in the same caliber as Club Opium, or hell even Velvet Room is beyond me. Throughout the evening there were countless security issues. Hit making producer Bangladesh and his girl were man-handled by security [while his smash single “A Milli” was playing in the background, I might add] all because they didn’t have the appropriately colored wrist bands.
A well respected publicist was even escorted out of the venue [and I’m being nice when I say “escorted”] for trying to ensure that all their clients were taken care of.
The R&B Live showcase was supposedly thrown by “powerhouses in the music industry - Mute Media (J. Carter, Mark Issa), Compound Entertainment (Ne-Yo's Entertainment Company), and the J Erving Group.” However, I have to seriously question everyone’s credentials for the way we were all treated on July 3rd, 2008. Some people are SOHH consumed with trying to get their picture taken and appearing on a red carpet when they should be ensuring that all invited guests are properly credentialed and taken care of.
Call me crazy but when I see artists like Bangladesh being outright DISRESPECTED by security, and don’t even get me started on how they were trying to come at me, I know it’s time to exit and never look back. SOHHfar I have been to three previous events all overseen by J.Carter and his crew, and three consecutive times they’ve all been nothing but bullsh*t.
At this point if I keep going back then whatever I get, I deserve. I think it is safe to say that my days of covering events at Luckie’s is coming to an end. Although I still have to check out Botchey and Hannah King’s event on Wednesday’s because I heard they are a step above the rest.
Who knows maybe J.Carter and friends should stop by Wednesday night take a pen and pad and study how a real party is thrown, because they clearly do not have a clue! I’m SOHH sick of these repressed former high school nerds that try to make up for how lame they were in their adolescence by trying to throw “industry” parties so that they can generate some buzz for a day. Could their attempts at being seen on respective blogs and in print publications be their attempt at over compensating for other shortcomings?
It should be noted that neither Luckie Lounge, nor Nicole Garner are to blame for my, or anyone else’s negative experience. They are essentially only echoing the rules of the promoter and its security.
And just so you everyone is clear. I attempted to get an explanation when I ran into Mark Issa and J.Erving [don’t quote me on the latter] at Charles Mathis mansion party on the 4th and they both attempted to play dumb like they had no idea what was going on. And even in my drunken stupor I could still smell that bullsh*!
Now that was my take on the evening. If you want the positive then that’s where my girl Necole Bitchie comes in [Check Out Her Account Here]
Club promoters need not get it twisted; it is a privilege to have media come out to your event[s]. We don’t need you – you need us. And it’s time that y’all get with the program!
Talk to y’all lata, --SOHH Gyant Email:sohhgyant@gmail.com
