ATL BLOG: SOHH Gyant Randomness: Top 5 Reasons Why G-Unit’s T.O.S. Is Going To Flop!
Here are 5 reasons why I [Gyant] think that G-Unit’s recording career is pretty much over.
This feature is staring to become a weekly thing. Here we have yet another hip-hop album that I’m afraid is going to be a commercial disappointment in the eyes of the music industry. Curtis Jackson, a.k.a 50 Cent and them other boyz have dropped their new album T.O.S. Terminate On Sight. But there is just one thing missing [and no it’s not Young Buck] interest!
1. OVER SATURATION: I know that I don’t have to tell you that 50 Cent is EVERYWHERE! Albums, Vitamin Water commercials, movies and everything else puts the bad boy of hip-hop in a very vulnerable position. I mean let’s be real; this is basically another 50 Cent album with features. Nobody is interested in the old man and the rumored former gay porn star. And, with Curtis resulting to his usual high-octane – lets bully around another rapper – antics people have grown tired of the marketing scheme[s]
2. YOUNG BUCK: While nobody can deny that Fiddy isn’t the leader of G-Unit crew Young Buck brought a lot of fans in his own right, to the previous projects. The South has a lot of love for Buck and now that he is gone from the group subsequently are some of the fans. Lloyd and Tony don’t have a strong enough fan base[s] to generate enough interest.
3. LIL’ WAYNE: Call me crazy, but I really didn’t see a point in anyone in hip-hop releasing an album after the news hit about Lil Wayne’s CD sales. The New Orleans representative made history with his highly anticipated album, so you just knew that the buzz as going to certify that his album would dominate the charts for at least two to three weeks after its original release date. G-Unit should’ve just sucked up their pride and pushed the album back two more weeks to let people absorb and them move on from Shawn Carter.
4. THE TAPING OF THE YOUNG BUCK CONVERSATION: The way Fiddy released that tape of Young Buck crying over the phone, in my opinion, was one of the most disloyal and presumably messiest things you could do to a person. It isn’t the nature of their conversation that was particularly interesting to me. It was the sneaky back handed way Curtis went about doing it. While nobody can argue that 50 Cent isn’t an entertaining dude to record your boyz conversation with a “just in case” mindset shows your disloyal and not to be trusted. And isn’t hip-hop all about the stories of the streets? SOHH if that’s the case aren’t loyalty and trust valued over most other things? I am in no way saying that Young Buck wasn’t at fault because he was. But anyone who records conversations as an insurance policy needs to own up to the fact that they are messy and aren’t to be trusted. If anyone in 50’s camp would talk to him on the phone regarding a private matter is crazy and deserves whatever they get. He’s shown that he is not to be trusted.
5. Do I really need to add a 5th reason?
Either way it’s not looking too good. The SOHH News department is already reporting that Wayne is set to be number one again.
Talk to y’all lata,

I'm not a hater because I was a big G-Unit fan in they're mixtape days up until the 50's second album. But honestly that album has no buzz, not saying it wont be good but the streets are not hungry for it. They will still do decent numbers I think because it is 50 but I dont think its a chance in hell that they going platinum.

Face it, gay-unit is finished, the majority of americans are against this trash you have put out
and Lil Wayne, Nas and even that idiotic DJ Khaled is starting to get even better.

This article is stated so perfectly well. I agree with everything you said. I think that the “Young Buckgate” finished them off. Also, when you look at how disrespectful50 was to Lil Wayne several months ago and even recently mocking his 1 mill in a week numbers and calling TI a snitch coupled with the dirty sh*t he did to buck I think that buried him in the south.
Young Buck didn’t have a future with G-Unit, anyway. If 50 can only garnish up 110 K what was Buck going to be able to do with that G-Unit anchor attached to his name. Anyway, I don’t need to comment anymore because your article hits it out of the park. It is well stated. Ok, the grill is popping now so I am out.
Peace to the real!

This arguement holds nothing but a bias, sinks in water. I listen to all rap, not jus one rapper. The thing goin on right now is that people choosin to hate on g-unit. No matter how good the cd is gonna be, no one is gonna listen and go "oh, this is actually kinda tight". No, people gone say it's not what the street wants to hear, how the hell does one person know what the street wanna hear? Are you from the street? I bet not, else your ass wouldn't be on this website. If 50 or the whole G-unit wasn't relelvant or didn't make the front page...then you wouldn't be writin about them, writin responses to it, nor even givin a damn to read it...but, for some reason everyone who has no interest, and wants g-unit to quit or somethin, always tends to put their opinions in here. Since I actually listen to g-unit, i'll put my input. G-unit album, it's good, not a classic. Lil wayne album all commercial, has some good songs, not a classic, and i can't listen to it anymore. So I listen to Beg for Mercy, and Tha Carter II. People need to stop hatin, and start buyin the music, instead of downloadin a song and judgin a whole fuckin album they never heard. Peace

Did you even listen to it cuz the new G-Unit is way way better than Lil Wayne's.
First of all, it's a Top 4 and nobody cares about Buck anymore...so we're down to a Top 2. Cds are like 12$, I don't see why you could not buy Wayne & G-Unit within a month...so a Top 1 I guess.
50 is certainly everywhere, that may be a factor, but at the end, like Maniac89 said, just listen to it before you make a stupid Top 5.
Out of the 16, there's already 7 songs that I would like to hear all day long and I know the remaining will grow as I listen to it.
T.O.S. a classic, maybe not, but did they hit the target, for sure, and it's all to their credit to do it without featurings and keep it real and raw.

I just can see the Hate in your voice as you wrote this...That GUnit album was what everybody actually wanted the wayne album to be...and that was Hardcore...the album has street bangers hood bangers and something for the ladies...I listen to all types of music not just rap..sometimes I need to hear something hardcore and edgy waynes album was nice but it had more of a rock feel which was kool classic no...Im waiting for artist like Nas and Jigga to do that...with 50 and company I got what I wanted...a hard album...an they are atleast going gold...did you forget that 50 is international? So wayne was blessed to sale 750 and bought the rest for the 1st week...TOS will do the same global and last I checked the US dollar is weak right now..lol

Why don't you just have a blog to yourself and let somebnody else do a blog for the Atlanta hip-hop scene. Obvoiusly you are not following those guidleines. And dude, you really want to predict flops every week? You are so negative, i hope you are hitting the gym, b/c eventualy somebody will split your shit. As for G-unit, I don't care anymore the shit is corny like most hip-hop now. Nas new album is sick, that song Sly Fox is real hip-hop. Not no gay ass Ashton Roth or yor man-crush Willie northpole

I Rather listen to most corny rap of today then listen to that truly horrible g-unit, at least most corny rappers look like masterpieces compared to this junk.
And now this piece of shit crew wants to go after T.I.?

This clearly is an opportunist blog. Much like TO in football, and Barry Bonds on baseball, everything is overblown when it comes to 50. Don't front you wrote this blog because 50 is too hot a topic, and it guarantees to be read by the 50 cent haters. So what does the media do to an artist? They build you up, then find a reason to tear you down. The media blew out of proportion the East Coast - West Coast beef back in the days, then when cats started dying, they turned around, and bashed hip-hop for having to respond to the way the media portrayed the beef out. Hypocritical.
Terminate on Site is way better then Wayne's Carter III, and it was done in a much shorter time span. The media took the real beef situation as what got 50 in the game, conditioning the public to say that 50 is beef igniting. Forgetting the fact that 50 walked the same path as every successful artist. Getting out in the streets, and grinding to make a name for himself. In Queens he had 20 songs, on 20 different DJ's mixtapes. I remember Canibus starting out dissing rappers, and where is he? Beef doesn't guarantee you to remain in the game and make money, but your hustle will.
Someone just took a casual conversation from Ice-T, and made a big fuss about that to create beef with an elder versus a kid. The sad part is the journalist who brought it to paper, probably feels the same way about Soulja Boy, yet he will compromise himself to make a story. That's fake. The media loves beef, and so does the public. The question is who is involved? If it's 50, then it's wrong. Everyone else, and its right. Who do you think writes the stuff that makes the people get so mad at 50? Journalists. So my question is instead of reading 100's of articles saying the exact same thing about 50, then blogging how you hate 50, why not bash the writer for making this an article in the first place.
If quote un quote 50 is a beef starter, then why entertain it? The question is because we love beef, and dissention, and journalists wouldn't have nothing else to write about. 50 said he was renovating a park in Southside an 500,000 project. I haven't seen an article about that. So when someone exploits the M.O. that the public created for him, and actually wins we hate. We love the underdog in life.
The reason people love Buck right now, is because he's still on our level, and that's sad to say. He blew his money, then burned his bridges, and he can't swim. So we could relate to more of his music because he is still on the major grind to climb out the hole he put himself in. I will say in this situation as a fan if you don't hold buck accountable for how he's handling his career, being smokescreened by the guilty until proven innocence view of 50 Buck will continue to be irresponsible.
because you hate 50, everyone wants to say yeah Buck we'll ride for you. The real truth is Buck is irresponsible. However because we love beef, or anything anti 50 we just want to see him lose, so we blind Buck from his own issues because the selfish fan wants to see 50 lose. Buck owes 50 money, got distraught because he was broke, and started talking ish. 50 gave Buck a long rope, and he hung himself finally. How is 50 disloyal to Buck? What did 50 do to Buck before this tape came out? Nothing. What did he say bad about Buck before the tape? Nothing. I do remember Buck talking about Yayo's court case on the radio though. I remember Buck saying he never seen a royalty check. I do remember Buck meeting up with Jadakiss in Vegas, and burned one wit him. That cool to do right because it's 50 Cent's crew that your doing it to. Buck was frustrated because his money ran out, and spoke out of frustration. Buck's issue was money, not beef. So now Buck wants to come with the same dis songs, and say the same thing everyone else says. If 50 doesn't put out the tape, then you would still diss 50, and takes Buck side anyway. What this does is comfirm that Buck is fraudulent. With Buck you had to do that, because he is a back & forth person. 50 is always guilty anyway and you people would have found a way to make the charge stick regardless of what evidence is actually there. It's ok for Buck to diss 50 in the media before all this occurred because everyone is anti 50 anyway, but then 50 responds to shots taken at him, and now Buck and his fans want to get all emotional. Now the fans say 50 is wrong? How? By retaliating? So what part of war has integrity. War is War. Yada Yada Yada. So all you southerners who are riding for Buck was you riding for him when southern cats could have put him out, and didn't leaving an East Coast person responsible for his rise, and himself for his fall? Yall ain't ridin for Buck yall just anti-50. So are you ridin for the southernor Soulja Boy then over Ice-T? Yeah right! Buck is disloyal, and needs to take a good look in the mirror at himself. He's a fraud. You can't have your cake, and eat it too. When you sign that contract you joining a new family. Yo don't pop off about your fam when the issues in question are as a result of your doing. That's illogicaL.
People please help me understand this:
If we are on the block together, and we say that we are down for each other, and you provide for me whether I earned it or not, how then do I say I don't f@ck with them like that? True enough you can obviously do what you want, but if everyone sees that yall are riding for each other, and you speak it out loudly, then if someone has beef with that crew that you professed loyalty to, do you think that if they want to shoot, that they gon say wait a minute don't aim for him shoot the rest? If so then its a set up. I know some of yall are or were bangers. If you a blood, and on the block banging with bloods all day long, why would you go to the Crips block wearing Red? What do you say? "Yo man I'm my own man. I bang with them to get my bread, then go my seperate way?" Do you think the Crips will say cool yo, or will they still bust your ish? What about the bloods if they found out you feel that way? Would they not bust your ish for being disloyal. The Crips would be cool with the dissention between him, and the bloods because they hate the bloods, so it could be anyone in the same position, but in the back of they minds they are saying I couldn't f@ck with him, because look how he saying one thing, and doing another. He would do the same to me. By doing that you come from under the safety of being with your clique that gon ride or die for you. So now you just out there disloyal on both sides with no one able to trust you. As a result you can get hit now from both directions rather than just lookin for shots from one.
Bottom Line is all this is a result of the media, and how they overhype things to make a story.

It's funny how people keep sayin G-unit is finished..How are they finished when they're still the most talked about group in hip hop..their shows still be packed..50 may not move the units he's used to moving, but he still sells in today's climate..It took wayne 5 albums to move a mil in a week..50 did 1.5 in his SECOND..Sure TOS might only sell a couple hundered thousand...That's pretty damn good for a group that's supposedly over though

I no that there r some loyal 50 fans out there that still want him to do good but come on now this album was trash its time to let him go and stop defending him his last solo album was trash and this 1 is to and if u like this cd its not hip hop, gangsta music r good music u like its just 50 cent that u like

Here is the 6th reason, 50 is too conceited. I don't know who gave him the right to judge other people's music, but they need to revoke that right. I know 50 is indirectly but surely trying to start up beef with the South. All his shots for some reason has been towards the rappers from the south. He really needs to stop before it turns around and bites him in his butt if Nas don't do it first. I can't understand why he complains about people hating him when he starts the beef first. People don't hate you because you are sucessful, but the smack you talk about them. I know your teeth are too big, but won't you try to shut your mouth, and see how drama free your life will be.

I bought both Lil Wayne and G-Unit when I saw them at the store. Both are good. Had to listen to G-Unit and have a 50 fan convince me on a few songs. Im liking it more and more. I just want good music!

Agree 100%. I use to hate 50 but respect his hustle, work ethic and business savvy, etc...But after this whole Young Buck deal I just find myself not liking dude at all, period. Don't see how anyone could ever trust him after that. If I was in his crew, sweeping floors or rocking mics I'd be watching dude with all three eyes and would say anything more that hi and bye because you know you can't trust him. - Haasim, The Black Art Depot (www.blackartdepot.com)

Jen Jen,
If it was you I would say the same thing. People not looking at the evidence. How is it biased. yall are saying Buck did no wrong, and 50 did everything wrong. How biased is that? Yall not gon hold uck accountable for his current situation. The bottom line is if I blow a million, and 50 gives me another million, and I blow it. It's no ones fault but my own. Giving me more doesn't help if I am still the same ol irresponsible person. I understand Buck has to respond because his manhood is on the line. However it was his actions that put him in this position.
Posted by: centinel | July 06, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Rather than saying a few lines, I write based on my thoughts long, or semi-long (lol). I hate when someone answers a question with one line rather than a good brief explanation. I want to know your whole argument. In this situation I think people only pay attention to what is made a big deal, rather than the whole timeline. There is a timeline to the Buck situation. People just can't skim through it looking for the negative from just one person, and absolve the other peoples involved. That is biased, and it's wrong.

I think that whole "Buck owes 50" thing was a lie from the beginning. And taping a convo is a bitch move straight up. Now people are starting to see Curtis for the rat that he is. I hope Jimmy Iovine, Eminem, and Dr. Dre rid themselves of that dead brand once and for all before it does any more damage to their repuations.

Even though I'm no fan of interscope records post death row records years, I Hope they can get rid of g-unit for good, we have to get rid of them to stop them from going after T.I.
That's why I'm glad I Made that petition.

Johnny...Bucks admits to his debts in the tape....
Posted by: centinel | July 06, 2008 at 06:10 PM
That tape was over a year ago and was probably something completely different. 5-0 is still a punk coward. Young Buck is still the truth so fuck every last little hoe who wants to turn against him over this petty little situation.
thebest, where can I find that petition? I'd like to sign that also.
