NEWS: G-Unit Fails To Take The Top Spot From Lil' Wayne, Jim Jones’ Byrd Gang Falls Short
Written By Cyrus Langhorne
G-Unit’s latest effort T.O.S. (Terminate On Site) debuted at the No. 4 spot on this weeks Billboard’s 200 chart today, but with a lower than expected total of 102,000 albums sold.
According to Nielsen’s SoundScan, the follow-up to 2003’s double platinum Beg For Mercy led the way in opening week sales compared to other debuts including Tech N9ne’s Killer which landed at No. 12, selling 36,000 CDs and Jim Jones’ Byrd Gang compilation M.O.B.:The Album. flying in at the No. 29 spot with 17,000 units sold.
Continuing to outsell all competitors, Lil’ Wayne’s Tha Carter III remains the top album in the country selling 156,000 in its fourth week. Weezy made history his opening week last month after selling more than one million albums. His total numbers read at 1,680,000.
As previously reported by SOHH, 50 Cent’s readjusted G-Unit made up of only Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks was expected to receive the No. 4 spot but was projected to sell around the 110,000 mark based on first day sales reports.
Be sure to peep SOHH tomorrow for a complete run-down of this week’s Hip-Hop And R&B Charts.

Ha, ha, ha, ha – if 50 was confused about Wayne’s 1 mill in a week he must be in state of dementia regarding his 102,000 unit sold in 1 week. To add insult to injury Wayne soundly beat those dudes again this and he has been out 4 weeks. That is a flat out embarrassment for G-Unit.
Now everyone reading this – you knew that I was going to drop a comment on this blog. The truth of the matter is that to me numbers don’t mean shit. I said it for years while 50 was hitting it soundscan out of the park and laughing at cats who’s numbers were better than his current102 but not much better. I have always thought that only idiots measure the quality of music by the number of unit sold. However if you are a G-Unit fan you are probably an idiot so it is understandable.
However 50’s very public demise may mean that hip hop does have a chance to live. It also may mean that artists will think twice before trying to diss and so call ether people’s career. The bottom line is to just make the music and good music at that. I will forever say that the Young Buck situation is what put the final nail in G-Unit.
See if a person is so-called ethered out of the game because of another artist’s superior lyrical word play then people will crown the winner and show the loser the door. This is all within the culture of the art. However, when you take a protégé and a person you called a little brother and you do the dirty back stabbing underhanded foul bitch nigga shit 50 did to Young Buck then that kind of act migrates out of the art and land of hip hop fantasy and in to real life. Those were real life issues buck was dealing with and for 50 to expose those issues to world by secretly recording Buck’s phone call went beyond the Hip Hop game. For 50 to turn on a person who was humble, truthful about his circumstances and seeking help from 50 was so foul that it made people take off their Hip Hop hat and put on their real life hat and judge 50 as a man and a human being not as the mystical entertainer and artist that he is. Now once they judged him as a man they concluded that this cat is not someone that they simply could not support. The punishment did not fit the crime and I think this particularly reigned true with the southern hip hop buying public. If you look all around the internet people are kicking 50.
I mean this is a new group of people too. This collection of 50 detractors does incorporate 50’s enemies fan base but there is also a new group of 50 cent adversaries. I think this group of people is people who were disgusted by his action with young Buck. Further I think he is also getting a backlash from how he is handling this situation with his son and his mother. This brother needs the best PR person in the business or it’s a rap for him.
102, 000 and you had and have all of the Black and Latino entertainment media in your back pocket (Hot 97, XXLmag.com, mediatakeout.com and others).
I mean “Funk Mastered-homosexuality Flex” is so ethically corrupt that he refuses to play anything Young Buck puts out in the future or any of his past works.
Do you know what his reason is? He said that he will not play Buck’s music because he wasn’t loyal to 50. Now is that not crazy or what. Disobedience to 50 bans you for life on the “Funk Mastered-Homosexuality Flex” show. And where are the administrators at HOT 97. How can they let an employee make a public statement like that? If I was Buck I would hire a lawyer and see if there was room for a civil law suit against hot 97. Anyway, with all of the Black entertainment and Hip Hop media (with the exception of Sohh) on 50’s short and “curlies” and having his own propaganda website to push his bullshit he was only able to push a measly 102 out. This kid is on a major too. That is a huge flop and there is no other way to spin it. However, I think the Buck situation is what killed him. Buck made the right move by leaving g-Unit even with tape being leaked. If 50 can barely break 100 what in the hell would Buck do on that garbage label, 40 maybe 50. The other thing is that Buck sounds so much better not that he is not with G-Unit. All of his G-Unit diss songs have been fire. I can see he switch flow to sound a little Pac-ish but that is cool because it work really well on him.
Now as for 50, he has not made good music in a very long time. G-Unit records have not made good music in a long time. And 50 is smoking crack if he thinks BISD will sell a million in a week. It will not sell a million, period. This kid is in classic denial. He doesn’t and can’t believe that it is over. Innerscope will be more than happy to show him the door after he fulfills his contractual obligations with them. Further the other majors will not be beating down his door for his services, either.
Consider this: 5 out of G-Unit last 6 albums have been commercial flops (Tony Yayo, Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck and now G-Unit the Group with their latest effort, TOS). Tony Yayo is up next to drop and given that he is the worst rapper in the world he is bound to flop too which will make it 6 flops out of 7 albums. If you include Lil crappy - I mean lil Scrappy and Freeway who 50 executive produced that would be 7 out of the last 8 albums.
Now GRODT was amazing but that was a DR. Dre produced joint. Everything Dre produces is amazing. So although the “Assacre” sold big the content and quality of that joint was awful. Curtis was pure trash and barely went plat.
Further their roster has withered away. Olivia was dropped from the G-Unit label. MOP was dropped from the label. Hot Rod has a homo name and he sucks ass as a rapper – so he is on the shelf. Spida Loc is horrific as a rapper so he is on the shelf. Mobb Deep is done. I also should remind you that 50 in a head to head soundscan showdown with Kanye West 50 was flat out roasted by Kanye. Once the dust was all settled Kanye West sold more that 2 million more albums than 50 cents. And today’s new commercial king Lil Wayne sold 10 times more in his first week then G-Unit did.
So G-Unit as a record label company has nothing to offer in terms of talent and soon 50 will be 35 years of age at the time some one signs him. Now with this young fickle hip hop buy public 35 years of age will make him look as old as the Ancient Egyptian Sphinx to these kids but unlike the Sphinx the interest in this old man telling hood tales about being shot 9 times and making cornball ice cream candy songs like Amusement Park, Candy Shop and lil bit will fall on def ears of the hip hop music buying public.
He is also a high maintenance dude with an addiction to drama that everyone will be well aware of. I mean the mother of 50’s son has labeled him as an obsessed arsonist who is a terrible father. She has even taken a restraining order out against him. He in return has countered her actions by bringing a defamation of character suit against her.
He also got into a "spat" with 106 and Park’s host, Rosci because she said that his album, Curtis was garbage (which it was). He returned her most accurate assessment of his album with a comment saying “I know 4 guys who slept with her." What a cornball. All the bullshit beefs he started with other artists. So people are not going be so will to take on a The Dennis Rodman of the hip hop industry as fast some of you think.
I personally enjoy all of this difficultly of this particular Black man (I use the term loosely). I like 50 hitting hard times and it is not because this buffoon has started beef with every rapper in the game (Nas, Fat Joe, Game, Young Buck, Retried ass Master P, TI, Weezy, Jadakiss, Cameron, Ja Rule, Diddy, Rosci- Bet 106 and Park host, Shyne (even as Shyne is behind bars), Jay Z and Wu Tang clan) for the purpose of selling Cds is not what troubles me most about this buffoon. What troubles me the most is his betrayal of our people. First he said “fuck the hood. I am not making music for the hood.” Which was coding for saying I am making music for white people only and fuck what you niggas think of me? But waay more than that – what trouble me most about this traitor was his siding with a man who’s paralysis and apathy killed Black people by the dozens.
I remind you that 50 cents is the same man who in the immediate aftermath (no pun) of our people drowning in the hot, polluted, shitty, pissy, corpse filled pond of the spillage of Katrina and our elderly grandparents being left for dead on roof tops of homes in New Orleans by George Bush and the governments at all levels, this Uncle Tom 50 cent said to the associated press that he thought that President Bush did all he could do for Black people and scolded Kanye West and others for being critical of the president. I can’t stand this asshole and I am personally embarrassed that he is from New York but I di welcome his long over do public demise out of the game.
Now for my detractors – first of all fuck you. I write as long as I want to. And yeah I do know everything about 50 because I study people who I see as a threat to our people or have kicked us when we were down and 50 falls in to both categories.
This will be my one and only post of the day unless someone comes on here and attack me and do it so well that I feel need to respond.
Other than that, peace to the real.

i mean 50 is not your average artist he's a company himself with a net worth over $400 million so hard times is the last things he would ever have to worry about..That guy can live off publishing checks for the rest of his life and not ever touch a dollar thats already in the bank...Now as far as music is concerned its over for G-UNIT they have worn their welcome out in the music industry...

I think you make some sound and logical points and while I agree with your general sentiment - I do respectfully disagree with some your points.
I think you have to really break down that 400 million he is allegedly worth. I mean what is a hard asset and what is a liquid asset. What is the level of debt associated with that 400 million dollars? His music company has been a dismal failure. You have to remember that 50 himself is not signed to G-Unit records. He is signed to Shady Aftermath. Now granted he has made some really nice cash with those organizations we must not forget that money did not come from G-Unit. He was paid like an artist from those efforts and not like a CEO of his own company.
The record company, G-Unit has lost money and lot of it over the last 3 years with all these flops. How much is that record company eating into that 400 million. 50 was also forced to shut down his clothing manufacturer due to the lack of sales although he told his dumb ass following that he was simply changing manufacturers. So I ask you how much did that business failure eat into his 400 million.
The other thing is that I don’t think his net worth is 400 million but more like 240 or 250 million. That is still a nice peace of change to have but a couple of bad investments and he can be broke. I am a financial analyst and because of my work, I know it is a misconception that people have, which is that millionaires are set for life. Well that should be the case but it is not always the case. Look at how rich Ed McMahon was and now he is flat broke. What about Michael Vick, Hammer and Michael Jackson….
So I would not assume that he is set for life although he should be.
Anyway 50’s problem is not one of wealth but his struggle to treat his symptoms from narcissistic personality disorder. Now that the “roar of the crowd” (Nimrod, 2008…lol) is silent and more criticism than accolades and praise is directed his way coupled with him suffering these embarrassing public failures in his business and personal life – that for him is hard times. If he loses his money then he will absolutely commit suicide. The money feeds the power and praise and gives him the high but once the stimulus is withdrawn then misery, depression and a sense a failure takes residency in his mind. This is kind of withdrawal symptoms he is experiencing now that has him fucked up.
So he is in hard times and things could get worst. Anyway, I just don’t believe that there are too many human beings on the planet earth who are indelibly rich.
Anyway, generally I agree with you.

Regardless of album sales, 50 is set for life. Banks and Yayo better find new day jobs.
Posted by: 305 | July 09, 2008 at 04:22 PM
The writer of this blog is a hater. All these biased opinions. Geez. Despite whatever personal beef or vendetta you may have against 50 you haven’t given him credit for anything. You ppl remind me of Rome. Celebrating failure and taking joy in someone’s downfall. Young Buck publicly dissed G Unit several times. That’s a bold move for someone who came begging for help and owes you a few hundred thousand dollars. G Unit has sold 102,000 units, yes...major disaster to only sell 102,000 units in a week on a group project with limited promotion. Such idiots. Compared to the success of the past yes but in an industry where Platinum albums are becoming rare and simply a gold record is seen as a success, I see nothing wrong. This is not hip hop genre; its gangster rap an industry that is generally black baled Unit has been lax in the recent years. Banks has been MIA. Buck having his own issues. Yayo by 50 freeloading and 50 off doin movies. Like really who is surprised by this? Furthermore, crucify another black celebrity. The crackers love it. This little nigga from Southside Queens aint supposed to be in the position he is. Jail or dead. Not a Farmington 35 bedroom estate.

@ Northphilly759:
I respect your general call for us not to take pleasure in the down fall (if you can call this, that) of any black person. This is a rule that I live by but will waive it when I see a person with black skin turn on our people. Therefore, I would applaud the down fall of Clarence Thomas. The way he has set us back I can't have a "rooting" interest in his personal progression. Now his professional demise is something that would bring a smile to my face.
The same thing for me reighn true with 50. After he publically said "fuck the hood" (and you know he was talikng about us) in terms of who is going to make music for and again in the imediate aftermath of our people drowning in the hot, polluted, shitty, pissy, corpse filled pond of the spillage of Katrina and our elderly grandparents being left for dead on roof tops of homes in New Orleans by George Bush and the governments at all levels, this Uncle Tom 50 cent said to the associated press that he thought that President Bush did all he could do for Black people and scolded Kanye West and others for being critical of the president - given that I can't apply this support Black folks rule to 50 cents, either.
When we (black folks) were down and out, 50 showed me what he thought of our people. So my question to you is given that how can you jump to his defense using the "don't take joy in the down fall of a Black man" defense when this smae black man showed his ass to our people when they were down and out?
I mean should we support people like clarence thomas and 50 cent even though they have shitted on our people in the past? I know that I need to mature more but at my current stage of development I can't support anyone who purposely kick our people and particarlarly when we already down and therefore I could never support 50 cent but i will cheer with great intensity regarding his personal demise.

E'body acting like cause 50 and friends didnt sell a certain amount of records he "lost" or suntin!?! Shiiieeet, I wasnt suprised that lil wayne sold all them units, he was sposed to! He was on every friggin song that came out in the last couple years if "he" didnt sell a mill or better that would have been a wash. G Uint still makes the best mixtapes...fuckit, i said it!
Posted by: adam_warlock | July 09, 2008 at 08:31 PM
@Bigup2BK
I can understand that. But then you have to take into account he is a rapper. B4 that he was a drug dealer and convicted felon. We are looking to these entertainers to be something they are not. He is not a role model. The life he led isn’t one that would be conducive to him becoming one. Murdered mother, dealing drugs, being shot. 50 cent seems as if he worships money. That’s okay but the public needs to stop looking to these figures to lead us as a people in the right direction. They are not getting rich off of positivity.

@ Northphilly:
I agree with you but I still can't give him a pass. If you read his comments and then think about the timing of his comments you can easily tell that he said what he said when he said it for the purpose catering to white people because he thought that Bush was loved by them and that they would remember his supportive comments of Bush the next time he dropped his ablum or made his next g-Unit product available for sale. I know 50 doesn't believe what he said and that is what angers me. If he actually believed it then I could accept what you said and give him a pass but those comments were calculated and then delivered. He even gave the victims of Katrina G-Unit clothing to wear as his way of helping them....lol. Basically he made them walking G-Unit ads.
So I can't accept his hardships in life as an excuse.
Wait a minute - i must pause. I just sounded like the Homie, Nimrod...lol.
Nimrod is a good brother who gives tough love to bloggers on this site (or what use to be this site) and he absolutely will not accept one's past as an excuse to set us back as a people. We fought day and night about this view point of his. We almost fought literally about this point (lol) and now I have come all the way over to his side. Damm, i think Nim won the argument...lmao...
I digress; but bottom line - 50's past does not grant him a waiver. He knew right from wrong and chose wrong. There is absolutely no excuses for what he said.
However you and I agree that we should not look to entertainers for leadership but i also don't think we should explain away their bullshit by offering up the past hardships in their life as an excuse....
Damm Nim---you are in my head now, B....damm you...LMAOOOO
Anyway, Northphilly keep looking out for us....it is only a few of us who give a damm about our people. I wish you well.

i got the album and to be honest i think 50 cent was being the "prodigal son" trying to be like i hope the hood accepts me even though i turn my back on it... it's a sad day in that camp when the best cd is a cd that been out for three weeks and sold 156K not good for the unit.....
Jim Jones Cd was crazy i mean i thought he was beefing with jay-z but he got a cat on there that sound similiar to jay i guess u gotta keep ya friends close and ur enemies closer

Since 50 is so good at quoting record sales, I wonder what his explanation for this will be. I do not find happy is other people's failure, but something needed to bring G-Unit off their high horse. It is really 50 and a group of leeches. And 50 now has to feel what Ja felt when the fans turn their backs on him. 50 blew up with his first CD and he got big-headed, burning bridges on the way up. Karma is muthafucka!!
